The Appalachian Trail Conservancy
A private, volunteer-based nonprofit
organization, dedicated since 1925 to building, protecting, and managing the
Appalachian Trail for the public.
From Katahdin in Maine to Springer Mountain in Georgia, the Appalachian National
Scenic Trail wanders the ridges and valleys of the Appalachian range for more
than 2,168 miles.

The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC)
A
volunteer trails organization with a membership of over 7,000 headquartered in
the Washington, DC area. The main purpose of PATC is the upkeep and improvement
of nearly 1,000 miles of hiking trails, 30 shelters, and 28 cabins in Virginia,
Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia.


Washington Women Outdoors (WWO) is a
non-profit organization that is run almost entirely by volunteers. We engage in
outdoor activities in the Washington, DC area where women share skills,
experience, strengths, and support to enhance and expand each woman's world. We
welcome women of diverse ages, races, and lifestyles. WWO provides instruction
by women for women. Activities are available for all skill levels to inspire the
beginner and to challenge the more advanced.
